3 Tips To Stay Motivated When Running A Business

Happy Monday! The weekend is so quick and always missed. Sometimes, Monday speeds around the corner a little too fast and I’m usually not ready. Sunday I try to get my content written for the site but honestly, I was so lazy yesterday and slept most of the day after church. It was much needed and the cooler temps made it even better. As a business owner, it’s so easy to get into this lazy funk that you really don’t want to do anything. Especially when you’re having a busy and extra long week, all you really want to see is your bed. There may be some days I am full of energy and 200% motivated to push through the day. Then, there are some days just like any business owner, I am completely over the day.The long days of continuous work can take a toll on anyone.

When you put in so much work, we’re all guilty of saying, “I need a vacation”, but do you really? Being your own boss comes with responsibilities everyone can’t handle. So, getting into that funk of not wanting to do anything can hurt you and your business. Being your own boss is a blessing. It’s not for the faint of heart and not for anyone who continually needs someone over there shoulders making sure things get done because as a boss you won’t have that. Either you do it, or your business fails. If you’re like me and you find yourself falling into that unmotivated feeling, below are three things you can do to reset.

1. Take a step back and breathe.  Sometimes, we all could use a little break. If you’re going non-stop all day you can sometimes forget that you need a break. Although that to-do list may be long, it doesn’t hurt to get up from your desk and take a walk around the workplace, neighborhood, or wherever you may be. Take a few minutes to step outside and get some fresh air. Removing your eyes from your workload and computer can help you get a quick reset and recharge you may need to push through and finish the day.

2. Change locations. Believe it or not, where you work has a big impact on how motivated you are to get things done. If you work from your home everyday all day alone, that can get pretty boring and lonely. There are a ton of places you could go to and work. Try a local coffee shop or co-working space. Changing your location and environment can give you that extra boost of inspiration you may have needed to complete a project. Plus, just because you run your business alone doesn’t mean you have to be alone. There are a ton of people who also run a similar business as you and connecting with them can help get you through the day.

3.  Plan your day. Having a consistent routine can help a ton. I’m sure you’ve heard a million times about if you start your day early how you can get so much done etc. etc. Well, it’s true. One major thing about staying motivated is to not feel overworked. If you have a schedule on when you’re having a meeting or completing a task, being able to scratch through that completed task at the end of the day motivates you to get excited about doing it all again the next morning as you ease more and more towards your overall goal.

I hope these tips help you on your way to taking on each day and being more motivated than you’ve ever been. Do you have suggestions that help you stay motivated while running a business? I’d love to hear them. Feel free to share!
